This is LA's Longest Running Single Day Vegan Tradition
THE ANNUAL VEGAN THANKSGIVING DAY POTLUCK PICNIC
Once upon a time, we had over five hundred in attendance at this event - vegans came from far and wide as there were not many of us and we all tried to be in one place.
Twenty-five years ago, for instance, Los Angeles had only two totally vegan restaurants but now there are close to a hundred.
It seems that wherever you turn in LA you can easily find more and more vegans. The world IS going vegan - maybe not as quickly as some of us would like it - but we have come a long way - and we are on our way!
Over recent years, more vegan Thanksgiving traditions have begun - that is great - the more the merrier - there should be vegan Thanksgiving events everywhere - all Thanksgiving events should be vegan - last year there were about ten vegan Thanksgiving options in LA, and the choices are growing.
This, though, is the longest running once-a-year vegan tradition in Los Angeles started just over a quarter of a century ago at Pan Pacific Park, then shifted to Westwood Park, then shifted to Rancho Park, and in recent years shifted to an even better location - in the San Fernando Valley.
Veg Kids has been running this event for years, and now we have a wonderful space with a variety of play opportunities for kids of all ages. This is a totally kid/family friendly event.
If you choose to attend one of the other events, then we wish you well.
We do especially encourage you to attend your family Thanksgiving events and help them go vegan - every Thanksgiving event truly should be vegan.
If, though, you choose to attend with us, before, after, or instead of family gatherings, then we will look forward to seeing you soon and celebrating a truly conscious Thanks Giving together - where all can be thankful - including the animals we are not eating!
Gather at 11am
Opening Circle at 12pm
& Then Feasting Throughout the Afternoon
Each attendee is to bring a vegan dish to share, with a note card labeling the ingredients, and also with the serving utensil it needs.
Also bring your own washable, reusable, plate, cup, utensils, napkin, etc.
Special entertainment opportunities will be featured.
Bring musical instruments if you might like to play.
Bring frisbees, balls, basketballs, tennis rackets and balls, scooters and bicycles, board games, cards, etc.
It is a grand event, and it would be great to see you there - again, though, we do encourage you to attend your family Thanksgiving events and bring veganism to them too ;)
Also, please do watch the weather - whether or not the weather is as ideally desired or not, we are prepared - we have a good indoor venue ready to go if mother nature decides to provide the precipitation we so need here in Southern California - the rainy day location is a nearby private facility for which the address will be provided if needed to those who have RSVPed affirmatively before Thanksgiving morning - for now, though, set your GPS to the 17003 Ventura Boulevard office address - you will seek parking in that area on Ventura, on Genesta, or on other nearby streets - you will see the Kids Make A Difference big purple van near our picnic tables - that will make it even easier to find us - our square of picnic tables will be set-up with different tables for laying out our different foods - some of them may still be available for you to claim your space - but, it is encouraged for us to also bring our own beach chairs and/or tables and/or blankets, etc. - and if we do shift to our rainy day venue, then again chairs, tables, and blankets will be quite welcome there - any questions about any of this or more, please do not hesitate to ask BEFORE THURSDAY - thank you and to a truly thankful Thanksgiving for all :)
