VegasHikers has a lot to celebrate this year! We broke the ten thousand member mark! We organized our five thousandth event (http://www.meetup.com/VegasHikers/events/225231956/)! And in December, we will see our ten year anniversary! Come out and join us to celebrate all of the above, and more!
On Sunday, December 6th, 2015, VegasHikers will be organizing a giant potluck picnic in cooperation with our community partners. Bring a dish to share, and join in the fun. We'll have presentations and hikes (posted separately on our calendar) throughout the day, raffles with great prizes, and a look back on the great times we've had over the years.
Whitney Mesa Recreation Area is a great place to host an outdoors celebration. The picnic area, nestled at the bottom of a cliff, has water, bathrooms, and a sizable grass field. The surrounding hills have numerous trails, both paved and dirt, that include panoramic views of Henderson and beyond. Our reserved park is right behind the Whitney Ranch Aquatic Center. There is ample parking behind the building.
What to Bring:
Your favorite dish to share in potluck. VegasHikers will provide plates and utensils. Please bring whatever you need to serve your dish. If you're going to grill, remember to bring charcoal and utensils for the park's grills.
Something to drink. Glass is not allowed in the park.
A few bucks to help cover our costs. (The park reservation alone was $150!)
A few bucks for raffle tickets.
A camp chair.
Raffle and Door Prizes:
Everyone in attendance will get a free raffle ticket. Additional tickets can be purchased for $1 each, 6 tickets for $5, or 25 for $20.
Money collected will first go toward covering event expenses. Any additional money raised will be put toward getting Wilderness First Aid training for our organizers. Please be generous! Getting our organizers trained helps us all.
Sponsors like Meetup.com will have goodies to give away to everyone in attendance, while supplies last.
The raffle will be a "Table Raffle," where prizes will be laid out on or near a table, and each prize will have its own bucket for raffle tickets. You may put as many tickets as you like in the bucket for whichever prizes you like. Each prize will have its own drawing and its own winner. Good luck!
We'll have brief speeches around 3:30 PM, with the raffle to follow around 4:00.
Our friends at the Orleans Arena will be providing our audio-video equipment and more raffle prizes! The nice folks at Southern Wine and Spirits will have two kegs of FREE BEER on tap! And we'll have additional prizes and support thanks to David Klug at TR Realty (http://davidklug.las.mlxchange.com/), Carpet Sharks, and much more!
