  • Ice Box Canyon is one of the many canyons that dots the Western edge of Red Rock. It is also one of the most popular hikes in Red Rock. All that traffic causes a problem with trash and with trail maintenance. That's where we come in...

VegasHikers has lovingly adopted the Ice Box Canyon Trail. Once each month, we organize a hike out there to clean up any litter on the trail, do some basic maintenance, and enjoy the scenery. Come join us in doing our part to give back to the park that has given us so much. Not only is it the right thing to do, it's also fun and it's good exercise.

This trail is about three miles round trip and has very little elevation gain. It starts out as a regular trail on the valley floor, then descends in to a wash that heads deep in to the canyon. In the wash there are many small boulders that must be climbed over or around. They make a great introduction to scrambling! At the back of the canyon there are a couple of permanent pools and a seasonal waterfall!

The Ice Box Trail Cleanup is always hiked at a social pace. We'd miss a lot of trash if we went racing up the trail! So if you like having the time to take pictures and enjoy the beautiful scenery, this is the hike for you.  Even at that pace, we're usually back to our cars before noon.

Donations to your hiking group have been used to purchase bags and gloves for our effort.  You may want to bring your own gloves for some of the more "unsavory" pieces of litter, or use ours.  Dogs are welcome on this hike, but must remain on a leash at all times. Kids are also welcome if they are strong hikers, capable of climbing a little.

Please note that the description for this repeating event stays the same all year long.  You must be aware of current weather conditions and plan accordingly. In the summer, wear clothing that is light in weight and color, bring a hat, and at least 3 liters of water.  In the winter, dress in layers and be prepared for the possibility of snow on the ground.  In all seasons, be prepared for good times and good company!
