Great for intermediate scramblers to build confidence with several fun obstacles. If you have problems at the first obstacle you will be asked to turn back. No beginners on this route please.

This is a relatively short moderate pace hike from Red Springs park up to Red Springs peak from the south end of the Calico Hills. After the peak we will head down the west side via one of the gullies to the Calico trail and return to the park via the Duck Head return.

Route is expected to be about 1.7 miles with an elevation gain of 800 feet to the peak at 4,287 feet. This hike is normally completed in about 2 1/2 hours but could be longer depending on group and how long we take for breaks or photos.

Hike: Red Springs Peak Traverse – Closed loop
Trailhead: Red Spring Park parking lot
Distance: 1.9 miles
Elevation gain: 930 feet Elevation peak: 4,304 feet
Time: 2-3 hours
Class: 3
Pace: Moderate
Children/Dogs: No

You will need at least 2-3 liters of water in warm weather, snacks/lunch for the peak, sunscreen, hat/sunglasses, etc. Light colored cotton shirts are better for hot weather, bring layers for cool weather.
