Car camping. Two day work trip on the Little Sur Trail, based out of Camp Pico Blanco. This is the fourth year for this annual National Public Lands Day outing. With the generosity of the Boy Scout camp, we are able to camp right at the trailhead, under old growth redwoods. THE WORK:
Crew Leaders Steve and Beth Benoit will bring saws for fallen trees, and the work will include brush and tread repair.
MEET: Camp Pico Blanco
Warm days, cool nights! Consider bringing a headnet for flies. They aren't super bad but can be annoying. Deep in the canyon, nights can get cold, so make sure to bring warm clothes and a good sleeping bag.
WHAT TO BRING:
Sturdy work clothes, sturdy footwear
Water; lunch and snacks. Breakfast for Sunday morning. Potluck item for Saturday night.
Tecnu lotion for poison oak protection if you need it.
Your favorite work gloves, safety glasses, loppers and/or saw and hardhat if you have them; tools and hardhats will be provided only if you RSVP before Friday night.
POTLUCK APPETIZERS (OPTIONAL):
The highlight of any VWA work trip is the food! Bring an appetizer (or whatever strikes your fancy) and join in the competition to make the most creative, delicious, scrumptious food item to share on one of the nights. Potluck highlights of previous trips include: Vietnamese spring rolls with peanut dipping sauce (Lynnelle Wing), deviled eggs (Beth Benoit and others), hamburger sliders (Steve), homemade guacamole, shrimp scampi, grilled beef (all Esperanza Hernandez). Can't think of anything to bring? It is optional, just come out and see what others bring, to be inspired for the next trip.
RSVP required! Additional directions and camp access instructions will be sent to participants closer to the time of the event.
