The Flamenco Arts Festival returns to Santa Barbara after a one year hiatus. Here's what they say about the show:

"Make a grand entrance on the red carpet along with other aficionados. We plan to celebrate this 20-year milestone in style! Arrive early to enjoy the no-host bar while the anticipation and excitement build for the thrilling premiere of FARO.

Like a shining beacon, Eduardo Guerrero will immediately draw you into FARO (‘Lighthouse’). Inspired by a journey across Spain to discover the magic and majesty of the country’s lighthouses, this tour-through-dance starts in the north, with travels to the Faro de Peñas in Asturias, with a final stop in Cádiz, where the lighthouse plays a significant role in Guerrero’s first childhood memories.

FARO is an exhilarating, exciting, unscripted performance that fills the air with electricity thanks to Guerrero’s mesmerizing moves infused with passionate music and the vibrant colors of his changing costumes. It’s at once intense, playful, and bold — razor-sharp with calculated precision that excites with a sense of spontaneity."

The long-time organizer of this festival died after the 2014 festival, leading to reorganization, the cancellation of the 2015 festival, and the "postponement" of the 2016 festival. After the 2017 show, they were forced to skip 2018. But it's back. This is a very special event for Southern California, so join us.

Flamenco is one of the two great Spanish musical art forms difficult to find in the U.S. and nearly impossible in the Santa Barbara/Ventura area. [The other is zarzuela]. The best way to experience the full power of flamenco would be to begin with a late dinner in Madrid [or maybe Jerez de la Frontera], followed by wine and tapas at a meson, and then to a cueva for flamenco [and some more wine]. The food, the ambience, and a bit of alcohol add to the experience. That’s hard to duplicate here, but good food and a bit of wine are possible. The Flamenco Arts Festival is a once-a-year opportunity to experience this unique and wonderful art form.

Founded in 1999, the Flamenco Arts Festival was established with the goal of introducing Santa Barbara and the South Coast to a caliber of flamenco performance never before seen in the area. More than ten years before UNESCO declared flamenco one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity, the Flamenco Arts Festival recognized the importance of the art form, launching a groundbreaking endeavor that changed the cultural arts landscape forever.
