FYI - MEC 50 & 100 Ride

  • May 11, 2014 · 8:30 AM

This is not a VCAC ride, it's just an FYI of another event in the city that might be of interest to folks looking for longer ride opportunities.

MEC is hosting 50 & 100km Victoria rides.  The 100km is a nice route and I'm looking forward to trying it with my new-to-me road bike.  The registration fee is $35 and here is the link for more information.

Now that was a picturesque ride. I felt challenged and when it was over I really felt good. Mainly cuz my are was off that seat ;-)

It was a BEAUTIFUL day for a ride, I hope everyone had fun!!! My big learning for the day was "technology makes a difference". I was over 30 minutes faster with a lighter bike with more gears on this 100 vs one on my old bike a month ago. Now my new-to-me bike is nothing special but wow did it make a difference. The even bigger news was HOLY COW what a difference a seat can make. First pain free long distance ride ever! Cudos to the boys at Russ Hayes who measure ma butt and recommended a seat. I could not believe I was not sore at the end of the ride. Congrats to Tyler on his first 100. Congrats to Catherine on her 100, oppps no it was only a 50, weenie :-) (this is a dig based on a conversation earlier today) Eldon cruised around a 50 and Roy was just pulling in from his 100 looking like he'd done some work as Tyler and I were driving out so we didn't get to speak. Sorry I didn't manage to connect with Brent or Reagan, there were a lot of folks there.

I was a weenie too. Although I took a scenic route because I was distracted by such a neat Mother's day sign. If Mama's not happy no-one's happy. So I road 9.4 km longer on West Saanich . . .thankfully the sweep VW was casing up as I was purchasing gummi bears and drove me back to where I was supposed to be. It was a beautiful day. Thank-you so much for posting this.

Sorry to back out. This looked like a fun challenge but I got too much sun today and have a heck of a headache. Going to try to sleep in tomorrow. Enjoy the ride everyone.
