Backpackers season opening at Shields lake

This is an excellent opportunity to to check your camping equipment - mainly rain gear - before longer, more demanding trips planed later this spring and summer. No car or carpooling necessary, as bus stops right on Harbourview rd in Sooke,
It takes about 4 hrs to the lake. We will pitch tents, gather firewood and familiarize ourselves with area - boating and canoeing possible.
Next day I am planing to hike mt Empress via Crabapple lake - very easy pace - observing wildlife. Campfire at evening again.
Packing tents Sunday morning and going back possibly through Sooke Mountain.
