Thanks to the fabulous "make it happen" skills of Fiona Cherbak at Certain Affinity, we will have a 2 topic set of sessions with the kings of AAA Core game creation art from Certain Affinity. This is one of Austin's largest independent video game studios, founded in 2006 by a team of very senior video game industry legends. We are amazingly lucky to have two of their top art team members presenting to us! As usual, it will be informative, highly interactive and...awesome.
TOPIC 1: "Visual Problem-Solving for Multiplayer Environments" with Michael Pedro, Lead Concept Artist
This presentation will cover the various challenges presented to concept designers during a typical multiplayer visual development process. We'll look at multiple first-person-shooter case studies, including the award-winning series "HALO", and explore several key topics such as thematic development, environment landmarking, and visual clarity. This topic is targeted at industry artists having basic visual development skills, as well as game designers interested in creating balanced multiplayer experiences.
Michael Pedro is a conceptual artist and modeler with almost a decade of experience working in the gaming industry for leading companies such as Electronic Arts and Sony Online Entertainment. His artwork has been widely published in various leading art publications such as Spectrum and Expose. Michael's specialties include visual development, modeling, and lighting. Michael is currently Lead Concept Artist at Certain Affinity.
TOPIC 2: "Physically Based Rendering for Game Artists" with Luiz Kruel, Senior Technical Artist
This presentation will cover the current jump between conventional shaders and the new PBR shaders like those and Unreal 4. We'll explore the differences, some of the things to watch out for, and why you might choose to use this system. This topic is targeted at game artists with basic knowledge of materials, as well as game developers interested to know what the hype is all about!
Luiz Kruel has nearly a decade of experience in the games industry as a technical artist, working for top game publishers Electronic Arts, Avalanche Studios and Sony Online Entertainment. He is currently Senior Technical Artist at Certain Affinity, a AAA game development studio known for it's award-winning work on the Halo and Call of Duty Franchises.
