The April Video Game Makers Unite! (http://www.meetup.com/Video-Game-Makers-Unite/) meeting is being co-programmed with the Austin Game Devs (the Austin affiliate of the IGDA) (http://austingamedevs.org/) and will focus on the role of the video game producer. All aspects of a game's production ranging from ideation, funding, game design and development, operations and getting the game out the door, published, marketed and discovered. What skills do they need to have and how do you get to be one?
The Video Game Producer's Chair Panel will be moderated by Austin Game Devs' Randall Robbins (https://www.linkedin.com/in/randalljrobbins), also a VGMU! member. Collectively, these video game panelists represent almost 100+ person-years of video game producer and publishing experience, so we would urge you to come!
Our panelists represent many different types of studios and experiences:
David Cohen is the Program Coordinator of the Denius-Sams Gaming Academy at University of Texas, Austin and has done work at Disney, Brash Entertainment, Schell Games, National Geographic with numerous game titles and noted author of multiple books and articles on video game production,
Elizabeth Howard is the current V.P. of Publishing at Aspyr Media and has numerous jobs there in multi-platform video game publishing over the last 14 years in Business Development, Digital Publishing, Business Development,
Dan Magaha is the current Chief Operating Officer of Game Salad, and past Studio Director at Seamless Entertainment, Co-founder of 2K Games Austin, Producer at NCSoft, and Firaxis Games, and
Greg Meador is now InMotion Software’s Studio Director, was a Senior Producer at Zynga, V.P. of Production at Challenge Games, Studio Director at Mock Science, and held key jobs at Midway, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Virdais, and Kesmai.
