Announcing a new Meetup for Viva La Vegan PORTLAND - Metro!

What: Vegan Water Kefir Class w/First Brew and Culture
When: Tuesday, April 6,[masked]:00 PM

Chavez Home
772 Division St.
Oregon City, OR 97045

Summer's Coming! Make Your Own Water Kefir ? A Healthy Alternative to Expensive Bottled Drinks and quicker than Kombucha.

Kefir is a traditional probiotic culture now being appreciated in the West for its taste and healthfulness. Most commercial kefir drinks are made with milk, but vegan water kefir cultures are available that grow in sugar water flavored with dried fruit. In 2 days or less, these produce a tangy, refreshing drink in an endless variety of possible flavors (coconut is especially delicious but hardly the only choice).

Join Julie Feickert, whose business includes growing and selling probiotic cultures, and Gabrielle Chavez, author of The Raw Food Gourmet, for a fun evening of tasting and discovery as we share tips and techniques for producing your own easy brews for friends and family. Class includes a generous quantity of water kefir ?crystals? (also called grains) and an opportunity to bottle your first culture from ingredients provided to take home with you. Please bring your own clean quart jar with lid for your take home brew (Nice ones can be bought for a $1.50 at Mirador where NW Veg and People's Co-op members can also get a discount; People's also has good jars).

When: Tuesday, April 6th, 7 - 9 pm
Where: Thomas and Gabrielle's home, 772 Division St., Oregon City
How Much: $25 (proceeds to benefit Oregon City Local Harvest 2020) pay at the door
