Welcome to Washington Area Stand Up Paddling, District of Columbia Kayaking.
I am pleased to announce that I am the New Organizer for WASP-DoCK! :>) I have been Knighted as I have knelt before the powers that be and kissed the proverbial WASUP-DoCK Meetup ring! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=miTnvbvrjxY
I'm excited to begin the New Year with fun paddles. But not just paddles but themed paddles! I like to think that is my specialty! :>) When I got into kayaking almost 7 years ago I realized ,with all due respect, that there was something missing in the groups. A pulse! lol Through my silly theme paddles I like to think that I bring a sense of humor to the table. For example paddles like: “The Tom Selleck Mustache and Hawaiian Shirt Paddle!” “The Margaretville Paddle!” Or how about “The Popsicle Paddle”! And who can forget “The Buck Naked Full Moon Paddle!” to name only a few. New ones are being created for 2017 as we speak! In many of them there are goodie bags, CD's or original T-Shirts are made by muahhh...to add to the fun! But it does add up.
That’s where you come in. :>)
So at the risk of sounding like a PBS station I will need some support. It will help pay the Meetup fees that keep this website up and running 24/7 to inform and unite Kayaks and SUP'rs alike!
All I’m asking for you to give $10. That’s it! That’s for the entire year of me posting wonderful memories.
To me Kayaking is my therapy! So please! Come join me on the couch! :>) Thank you, Hector Alers
This Meetup group is dedicated to Kayaking and Sups! As well as kayaking in the Greater Washington D.C. area. Our activities center around the Potomac running through D.C but also include activities in Northern Virginia, the Maryland Suburbs around D.C., and even occasionally in some far flung locations such as Annapolis.
All activities regardless of what time of year, a PFD is required to be worn when we are anywhere that can get potentially choppy (not just placed on the board/boat but be worn). We will make exceptions on very calm locations with few underwater hazards (still have to have the PFD by law). In warmer weather, we highly recommend the manual inflatable belt PFDs as being adequate for SUP and Sit On Top kayak (they are generally more comfortable) but in colder weather (particularly in winter) even for SUPs and SOTs we recommend regular PFDs .
Lastly, everyone should be mindful of when they sign up for an event. If someone signs up for an event but then can not make it, they need to remove themselves from the event so the Event Host and other participants do not end up wasting time waiting for someone that is not coming.
All that being said, We are here to have fun paddling out on the water.
SUP paddling and kayaking can be a magically experience and we are here to facilitate that magic!
