What we're about

Do you like to read and welcome a diverse assortment of book genres? Do you enjoy refreshing drinks, delicious meals, exploring local establishments, venues, events and activities? Are you looking to meet new people and make new friends?

This Meet Up group is focused on allowing ladies to meet and discuss books while enjoying some of the above activities (but not limited to the above activities!) while discussing the group's book of the month.

Didn't get a chance to read the current book? That's okay, we would like to see you anyway. We are a friendly and inviting group and will make you feel welcome, so don't hesitate to join the fun!

There are even gatherings where books aren't brought up at all and we will just be out exploring...

Most meetings will take place in the general vicinity of Altamonte Springs and surrounding area (Lake Mary, Winter Park, Maitland, Orlando, Casselberry, etc.).

How we choose our books and calendar of events: During each monthly book club meeting, each lady present makes an anonymous suggestion for the next month's Book, Book Review Venue and Exploring Destination. We draw... and voila - There you have it! Our next schedule of events has been determined. Sometimes we add events that just seem fun to our calendar as well.

Take a look at the Events Page for detailed information on our current book and venue of the month.

We look forward to seeing you at one of our events!

Monthly Book Review, "Serena" at The Coop in Winter Park

The COOP - Winter Park Fried Chicken

Join the Ladies Book & Explorers at another group favorite, The Coop, in Winter Park, while we review our book of the month, 'Serena', by Ron Rash. From our group and at our events, you can expect a relaxed atmosphere, engaging ladies and a fun evening. More of an introvert? You can engage as much or as little as you find comfortable. It's easy to create your experience in this group. If you RSVP 'Yes', REMEMBER to Un-RSVP if you cannot make it. Consideration was taken to reserve your spot and the same courtesy is appreciated if you cannot attend. 'Serena' - Ron Rash The year is 1929, and newlyweds George and Serena Pemberton travel from Boston to the North Carolina mountains where they plan to create a timber empire. Although George has already lived in the camp long enough to father an illegitimate child, Serena is new to the mountains—but she soon shows herself to be the equal of any man, overseeing crews, hunting rattle-snakes, even saving her husband's life in the wilderness. Together this lord and lady of the woodlands ruthlessly kill or vanquish all who fall out of favor. Yet when Serena learns that she will never bear a child, she sets out to murder the son George fathered without her. Mother and child begin a struggle for their lives, and when Serena suspects George is protecting his illegitimate family, the Pembertons' intense, passionate marriage starts to unravel as the story moves toward its shocking reckoning. Rash's masterful balance of violence and beauty yields a riveting novel that, at its core, tells of love both honored and betrayed.
