Dave Hartill, Fuzzy Duck
Dave's working life began in 1995 and whilst his job has changed from illustrator to rugby player to visualiser to bouncer to graphic designer to writer to animator to film director to creative director to managing director, he uses many of the wide-ranging skills he has picked up. Dave will be talking a bit about working for yourself, working for other people, freelancing, running a company and the magic of being a creative designer in print, film and digital. The work Fuzzy Duck does today is for vastly different clients such as The Tower of London, Manchester United, NHS, United Utilities and Warrington Wolves to pick a handful. Whilst the techniques and mediums they use are vastly different the way they approach a job is always with honesty and an understanding of exactly what story we are trying to tell.
Rob Deardon, BBC Radio 5 Live
Rob began his BBC career on a work placement at BBC Radio Manchester during the 2002 Commonwealth Games. After a post-grad course, he started as a Producer on the breakfast show with BBC Radio Cumbria and a brief stint on Mastermind. Now, working with 5 live, he was involved with the successful London 2012 Olympics coverage (for which he claims complete responsibility) during which he took part in a marathon 19 outside broadcasts in a row. Rob will be talking about what he does with 5live and how he started his career in radio.
Plus, we'll be talking about Payvd, a new start-up based in Manchester and looking at taking a new site from initial concept through to launch and how user-centric design is important - essentially, remembering the audience for the product you are building
Look forward to seeing you there!
