This group was created to address the needs of a large subset of members of the Round Rock Writers Guild. It was the manuscript store-and-forward site to manage the critique schedule without overly burdening the rest of the membership with excessive, irrelevant messages. It worked well.
Recently, Meetup made an unannounced decision to remove the file-upload feature. As we require manuscripts to be available for review at least two days prior to a critique meeting, the need for this Works in Progress site is moot. All of our meetings are now scheduled in www.Meetup.com/RoundRockWritersGuild, and as we have no further need for this specific Meetup group, we will shut it down by April. Therefore, we are not accepting new members here.
We are in the process of setting up a Google Files site. It will require for you to have a gmail account.
You must be a member of Round Rock Writers Guild to participate in this workshop. You are welcome to come and audit a meeting or two. We have critique-format meetings five or six times a month, depending on the calendar -- every Monday night and the third Saturday morning -- to help each other in developing our writing, using a workshop format.
The prerequisite: Anyone participating in a workshop must submit a piece of their own for review and read those to be workshopped that day. (Consider that to be more of a guideline; members can review without having submitted anything.) We will receive the most benefit from an active discussion among all members attending a workshop day. That being said, we follow a round-robin feedback procedure, and depending on the amount of manuscripts and the number of participants, sometimes, there's not much time for deep discussion of a particular piece. There is no requirement to attend all the WIP workdays, just to contribute your writing and to read the pieces to be discussed on the days you do attend.
For now, the work submission and discussion ground rules (including length of submissions) are posted on the About page (link in the navigation bar at the top) and on the message board's Administrative section.
Please reply YES only when you are sure you can come and will commit to reading all submissions! Of course, life happens: if you have to change your RSVP to NO, let us know so we can remove your piece from the list and save some time. There is an **RSVP & upload deadline three days before any workshop** so participants have time to read the material before attending the meeting.
The sessions will be about two hours, with a break about midway through.
