ABOUT THE DAY
Melitsa will be leading this walk with her four legged companion Meg. Melitsa has been working within the fitness industry for over 25 yrs and is a strong advocate of walking for health and well-being. Her passion for walking has drawn Melitsa to join Andy and his team and she is currently developing her Hill and Moorland leadership skills at the Mountain training centre Plasy Brenin.
We meet at a small village, Whitchurch, where there is on the road parking and a fine cafe. We head off from there, first on road but soon alongside the meandering river. We gain the cafe at Symonds Yat for a cuppa and out come the cameras for the spectacular views over the river and Huntsham Hill.
It''s downhill and back to the riverside until we get to the wibbly wobbly bridge at Biblins, always fun to cross :) A great forest walk now ensues and we locate King Arthur's Cave and soon after the ramparts of an Iron Age Hill Fort, said to be the place where Vortigen had his last stand before disappearing from history. It's then some delightful lanes back to the start point.
This is a 9 mile walk with one hill but often over rough and muddy ground.
Walking boots are advised. It can be cold in the valleys and under tree cover even in good weather so warm layers and waterproofs are essential.
Well behaved dogs are welcome.
You will need a packed lunch.
We will be leaving Whitchurch promptly at 10.10am so please arrange to be at the vilage shop no later than 10am. If running late then do message this event page...
If this event is SOLD OUT do search the programme for future events with availability.
We charge for these walks in order to have a vibrant and exciting range of events available to group members. The charge ensures that the groups programme is sustainable.
Here's looking forward to another fine day out in the waterfalls area of the Brecon Beacons :)
GENERAL GROUP INFO
This group is for those who would like to take part in walking and adventure activities and holidays at low cost.
We offer a range of walks of different lengths and difficulties so hope to cover most levels of ability/fitness.
The main aim of the group is to get people outdoors and walking and socialising with others who enjoy the same.
We encourage the development of interest in the hills and mountains of Wales. We facilitate our members to build their skills and to get out on their own or to look to us for guided adventures in the UK and abroad.
