Nov. 19, 7 pm, "State of Wonder" by Ann Patchett

Award-winning, New York Times bestselling author Ann Patchett returns with a provocative an dassured novel of morality and miracles, science and sacrifice set in the Amazon rainforest. Infusing the narrative with the same ingenuity and emotional urgency that pervaded her acclaimed previous novels Bel Canto, Taft, Run, The Magician’s Assistant, and The Patron Saint of Liars, Patchett delivers an enthrallingly innovative tale of aspiration, exploration, and attachment in State of Wonder—a gripping adventure story and a profound look at the difficult choices we make in the name o fdiscovery and love.

    HI ALL!
Just a note: Newly published books can be hard to get unless they are purchased new. They are usually on long waiting lists at libraries, and they are not yet sold as "used." The book SOMEONE is an example of this dilemma. It was recently published in September 2013. It might be wise for us to keep this in mind when choosing a Group reading selection in future months. (No everyone uses electronic media to read; many of us still read from paper.)

Hi, I think I am #130 on the library Hold list, for the December book. Is there anyone willing to let me borrow their copy at the November meeting? If not, I'll check Amazon. Looking forward to discussing State of Wonder. This is only my second book, but you guys sure pick good ones!

Don't have it myself yet. Amazon second hands are usually good.

I'm almost finished with "State of Wonder." It has taken me very far outside of myself. The details of the Amazon are fantastic.

This (State of Wonder) is one of the best books yet!

Lynn, I giggled about your message--I think we've all done that type of thing (showing up on the wrong day) at sometime in our lives! But it does leave you feeling awful. :(
I am leading the discussion for State of Wonder; although for last month, we had so many people that we split up into 2 discussion groups, which worked well. I will bring an extra set of questions with me, just in case that happens again in November...

    Hi Lynn,

Glad to hear you are okay. Was worried when I didn't see you at the meeting. Actually two of us prepared questions. The group was large so we split into two groups for discussion purposes.
