Garden Valley Loop – Superstition Wilderness (East of Apache Junction)

Description: The trek starts at the First Water Trailhead and follows the Second Water Trail (236) east to Garden Valley. From Garden Valley an unmarked horse trail heads northwest to Hackberry Spring. From the Spring take First Water Creek bed south to Second Water Trail; No route finding skills are necessary on this trail, and most hikers will enjoy the rock and sometimes boulder filled paths. Our mileage and time are variable depending on how long we enjoy the views from the top and how many breaks we take. When you RSVP, mention if you're going to meet at the carpool location or at the trailhead.
Difficulty: Easy, Distance RT: 5.4 miles
Start Elevation: 2300 ft, Elevation Gain: 454 ft
Drive Time: 1 hour, Water to Bring: 2 liters
Meeting Time/Place: 8:30 AM, Home Depot on the southeast corner of Power Rd and the US 60. Please park in the southwest corner of the parking lot near the Burger King.
Directions to Trailhead: TAKE US 60 East to exit 196 Idaho Road. Drive North on Idaho Rd one mile to SR88. Turn right on SR88 about 3.5 miles to FR78 just past Lost Dutchman Park. Turn right and follow this road about 3 miles. Note: horse trailers will be parked on the left 0.5 miles before reaching the main trailhead. Dogs OK on leash.
