Description: This is a hike I really enjoyed last year (except for the twisted ankle part). Trail starts across from the Canyon Lake Marina. It will climb about 700 feet over the first mile and give nice views of the lake and of Weaver's Needle. The trail then descends steeply to La Barge creek. We will then head off the trail and follow the creek until we get to the box canyon. This requires a little scrambling up and around some large boulders. (An alternate depending upon conditions and hikers will be to go around the backside of Battleship Rock and drop back down into the canyon). A box canyon is a narrow canyon that has tall cliffs on both sides. This one does a left / right zigzag that creates an area that is great for pictures. I am guessing about 3.5 hours to get to the box canyon and a little less to get back so plan on 7 -8 hours round trip. See last year's pictures.
