Sunrise Biking the I&M starting in Channahon

Come for a bike ride along the Illinois and Michigan Canal. We will start at the Channahon access and for those who are interested, we may ride to the Gephard Woods exit, head into the town of Morris for Breakfast, (or bring a bag lunch) and back. This is about a 28-30 mile round trip total.

Note: This ride will be cancelled if the trails are wet or if it is raining, so check this site before heading out Saturday morning.

Here is a link:

Please be on time. I/we will wait till 7:00am, then be on our way. A cell number will be given out for last minute direction help or cancellations on Friday night the 23rd.

Hope to see you there!

Here is the planned trail by mile post, (see the link above, but could be cut shorter if the weather lets us down). Starting at mile post 45 in Channahon and reaching mile post 59 at Gebhard Woods, a short jaunt up the street to relax at a restaurant (or a bag lunch as stated above), then ride back to mile post 45, (Channahon Access to the canal).

For planning purposes, the Channahon Access is about 6 minutes from I55 and Route 6 intersection, so figure out you plans from there!

Take I55 south to exit 248, (US Route 6). Turn right on Route 6, (heading west). Travel this for 2.6 miles. There will be a Subway sandwich shop on the left, (south side). Turn left on Canal street at the Subway shop. Go down a few blocks to the first stop sign. Follow the sign to the Channahon State Park by turning Right. Park in the lot. I will have a red Chevy van there.  It should be great fun for us folks that enjoy the waterway scenery of the connecting rivers, falls and wildlife.
If it's raining bad, the Bike ride will be canceled, so check out the website before you leave Saturday morning.

Stay alert! While the wearing of a helmet is strongly encouraged, riders ride by choice and assume all risks. Please read the disclaimer of our "Pages" section of this website.

A nice cool morning at the I&M Tow Path with no rain at all. Great company, no wind, no bugs and great for riding! We put in 15 miles to Morris, ate a wonderful breakfast at a restaurant in town and headed back for another 15 for a total of 30 miles. Looking forward to doing it again. Great spending the time and riding with you two, Mary and Terry. Great laughs and conversation! :)
