Natural Wonders of Eastern WV - Sep 3-7

Hi,

Below is information regarding the (3rd annual) September Labor Day weekend trip to West Virginia. Note that the trip is limited to 22 people and there are only five spots left. If you are interested, email me directly about accommodations and send your deposit. Rooms with double beds are no longer available.

Although the individual hikes are not very difficult, hikers must be in shape for multiple days of hiking and to be able to maintain a moderate pace throughout.

Using moderate (up to 3.5 blisters) day hikes (no backpacking) over four days, we'll explore the natural wonders of eastern West Virginia, including Blackwater River Canyon, Blackwater Falls, Dolly Sods and/or Otter Creek Wildernesses, Seneca Rocks, Spruce Knob, and Sinks of Gandy, among others.

We’ll be staying at three 8-person vacation cabins in Blackwater Falls State Park. Each cabin is fully furnished and equipped, including kitchen, bedding, showers, and bathrooms. The cabins are reserved for four nights: Thursday, Sep 3, through Sunday, Sep 6, departing Sep 7. You may arrive on Thursday (for 4 nights) or Friday (for 3 nights). Cost for lodging is the same regardless of the number of nights you stay there.

Each cabin has four bedrooms, two with a double bed each, and two with two twin beds each. Costs are $170 for a room with a double-bed for use by 1 or 2 people (i.e., one person may rent and use it, or two people may share it), and $110 per person for each twin bed.

A deposit of half the lodging cost is required to reserve; full payment is due by August 15. Make checks payable to Michael Darzi, and send to PO Box 2308, Rockville, MD 20847. (Paypal bank transfers are OK, but not credit card payments.) If you must cancel, any payments for lodging will be refunded only if someone else is available to take your place.

This is a Sierra Club PRO event, co-led by Marjorie Richman and myself. There is limited space available, so you must reserve early. No kids or pets. Contact me directly for information about logistics and trip options.
