Billy Goat Trail & Great Falls Park

Get an early start on your New Year's resolution to exercise more and to lose some of the holiday calories by joining us on Sunday in this combination of two classic area hikes. Winter is a great time for the rocky Billy Goat (assuming no ice) when the views of gorgeous Mather Gorge and Great Falls are the same, but the biting insects and tourists are away. The 6.5-mile (moderate or 2.8 blisters) route will take us over challenging rock scrambles as well as historic mining sites.

Good footwear (preferably, water proof ankle boots) are essential as we try our hands (feet, really) on rocks and sloppy trails. Bring snacks or light lunch and consider an early Italian dinner as an option.

Park at the Old Anglers lot of the C&O Canal and meet at 10 am on the towpath near the canal bridge. For directions or a 9:15 am, Grosvenor-Strathmore Metro pick-up, contact me ([address removed];[masked]).

This will be our last hike of the year, which in itself should be cause for celebration. If I don't see you -- or if I do -- have great holidays and a terrific next year!
