Wilderness Medicine Field Course

Damascus, MD
Post #: 3
Hi, Wandering Soles.

I have had many climbers, hikers, runners, adventure racers as
students and thought this club may be interested as well.

WMFC 2010
The dates for the 2010 series Wilderness Medicine Field Course
are in! Courses typically fill 2 mos before date posted so
please make your plans early….

5/28-30 includes advanced rock rescue, and advanced navigation
6/25-27 includes kayak battle (easier rock rescue and easier navigation)
7/23-25 includes kayak battle
8/20-22 includes kayak battle

The Wilderness medicine Field Course is a 3 day, 36 hour
training course for emergency medical skills and survival and
rescue skills in multiple outdoor environments. Over 400
students have take the course and learned high angle (rock
climbing) rescue, kayak and swift water rescue, deep woods
survival, emergency orthopedics and surgery skills and
navigation plus many other critical survival skills. Course
given in various locations in Montgomery County , MD ( rock
face, mountain, deep woods, hiking trails, lake, classroom,
mountain biking course.)

The course is attended both by physicians and medical personnel who receive 30 credits of continuing medical education and outdoors guides who receive a Wilderness First Responder Certification. Primal Quest teams looking for a pre race certification course also have been very successful in the course.

The 2010 pricing is $210 for the weekend and $240 for
physicians for CME credit. Additional Packages available with
tent site set up and meals . Many WFR cert classes may be
$700, this class priced to ease entry for medical students and
starving climbers…..

Please visit Dr Smith’s website (being updated to 2010) for more information, to start to register online
Be safe in your race!!
