What we're about

This is a group for those interested in learning Argentine Tango at all levels including absolute beginners, and/or enjoying this wonderful dance at social events (Milongas). It is for those living or studying in the general area of Warwickshire and the West Midlands and for tango enthusiasts visiting the area who are looking for somewhere to dance. Most of the events, but not all, take place in Leamington Spa or Warwick both of which are fairly easily reachable via the A46 or M40 and connecting roads, or bus or train.

Enjoy Argentine tango & milonga classes & practica with Tango Warwick

Learn and enjoy dancing authentic Argentine Tango from Tango Warwick's wonderful teachers Luis Rodriguez & Elizabeth Knock. The classes are on Fridays except for the first Friday of each month. THIS WEEK from 7.30 onwards the concentration will be on milonga: See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-c0jMDPBCU for a demonstration by the veteran tanguero "El Pibe" who we hope will visit Tango Warwick in September. At 6.30 there is the beginners class, catering especially for the recently enrolled newcomers. It also serves as a time for improving the all important basic techniques. The usual more advanced courses are later in evening, restricted to more experienced dancers and by permission of the teacher. Most students find joining in the basic classes useful, or essential, even while taking the most advanced ones. Of course newcomers will be made very welcome; and afterwards there is a lively practice/ social dancing session to round up an enjoyable, and instructive evening. The PRACTICA is after the third class but is open and free to those who have done any of the classes (and a nominal charge to others)--you could always bring something to read in the hall or lobby or go round the corner to a pub or cafe and come back at 9.30? This week Ann Nunn will be the DJ, so expect some exciting music that will keep you dancing, and away from the soft drinks, wine & cake. Remember: • You don't need a partner, Argentine Tango is a social dance and it is standard practice to change partners during the classes. • Let me know if you have any queries I might help with. Our "resident" teachers for the first half of 2019 are Luis Rodriguez from Argentina & Elizabeth Knock. They travel up from London to teach and inspire us. Their philosophy is to teach what you need for social dancing, anywhere in the world with anyone who is ready to dance. Their dancing style is of beautiful simplicity. They emphasise this, and dancing with the music, from the very first class. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_continue=87&v=CCKfAikOL5E or https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TeD0NNQfqwk&feature=youtu.be Their base is "Tango y nada mas" in London:https://www.facebook.com/untangoynadamas/?fref=nf The timing is as usual: 6.30 pm to 7.30 pm:Beginners & Essential Tango techniques {Please arrive a bit before the start if you possibly can, to help the class to begin on time.} 7.15 pm to 8.15 pm: Improvers milonga class & Essential Tango techniques. 8.15 pm for 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm: Intermediates Milonga Class 9.30 (approx) to 10.30 (approx): Practica,DJ Ann Nunn • Teachers: Elizabeth Knock & Luis Rodriguez Prices: Beginners Classes £8 (£5 for students with student Id), together with Improvers class £10 (£8). Practice Argentine Tango at Warwick SPACE

Warwick SPACE,

NB: THESE EVENTS WILL NOW TAKE PLACE ON THE FIRST & THIRD WEDNESDAYS OF EACH MONTH, NOT WEEKLY! This is an opportunity to practice Argentine Tango. You will need to have done some tango in order to have something to practice! but a class or two should be enough. These sessions are regular events with tango dancers who want to improve their dancing whilst they enjoy it. It is a friendly, totally relaxed and sociable time with a small number of dancers of wildly different levels, and tea & coffee and sometimes cakes. There is a decent floor and music. It is likely that you will be able to dance with or be advised by a more experienced dancer (especially in the first hour) but you can easily avoid that if you prefer! This is not a substitute for classes and the other participants are not teachers, though they are usually happy to advise inexperienced dancers who are about to take classes or are taking regular classes. It is organised by Tom Dillon, see https://www.facebook.com/groups/647271378622582/ Drop by anytime, for any time. PS It costs £5, to be discretely slipped into a box on Tom's desk by his music. PPS If the door appears shut ring the bell!
