550 Galloway Street, NE, Washington, DC
Starting at the Ft. Totten Metro station (not fort, as little remains of the fort), we'll visit four Civil War-era forts, some well-preserved (e.g., Ft. Stevens), others not much more than some overgrown breastworks, ending up at Ft. Reno on the highest point in the District (see http://www.nps.gov/cwdw/parkmgmt/upload/CWDW-Trails-low_res.pdf). The route, a mishmash of trails and sidewalks, takes us across Rock Creek Park and down the appropriately named Military Road to the AU-Tenleytown Metro station. (Check the status of the METRO at http://www.wmata.com/rider_tools/metro_service_status/rail_Bus.cfm? beforehand to find out which lines are actually running!)
Note: There is a one-time, lifetime group membership fee of $5, payable at the hike. Non-members pay $2 for this hike only.
Total Distance: 6 miles
Dogs: Allowed, leashed

The hike ends at the Tenleytown-AU METRO station (on the Red Line, which can be taken back to Ft. Totten).
