Needs a location
Join us on Aug 4th for an afternoon on the Anacostia River on our own private boat tour! This is an educational outing to learn all about this important waterway including vital conservation efforts underway!
Will enjoy a two-hour scenic, relaxing boat ride along the Anacostia River while learning about the river's human and natural history, wildlife, the environmental threats it faces, and the solutions helping it realize its full potential. Normally, it's scheduled public boat tours that are offered, but we'll be doing a private boat outing just for our group!
Staff from the non-profit organization, Anacostia Riverkeeper, will educate us about this important yet little-understood watershed. Anacostia Riverkeeper, which is funded by the District’s disposable bag fee, works to protect and restore the river as well as create opportunities for the community to connect to it. Clean water and a swimmable, fishable Anacostia River are the organization's goals.
Not many people understand just how sprawling and intertwined the river is with those who live near it. The Anacostia watershed is 176 square miles and includes parts of the District, and Montgomery County and Prince George’s County, Maryland. Nearly one million people live in this watershed, either directly on the Anacostia River or on one of the many streams that connect to it. Whatever happens in any of these streams and communities affects the Anacostia River.
Meet 1:45-1:50 (10-15 minutes before out boat tour) at Yards Marina, which is located in SW DC in the Navy Yard / Capital Riverfront neighborhood. We'll enjoy a 2-hour boat ride on the river from 2-4pm.
The boat tours are free, but there is a $3.80 fee to join this meetup, so that I can be sure to provide a small donation from our group. $3 donation and 80 cents for the Meetup.com & WePay transaction fees.
Afterwards, since we'll be conveniently located where there are numerous bars & restaurants, if you feel up for it and have the time, we can grab some eats/drinks. This is an OPTIONAL post-activity.
More details on meeting up when the date gets closer.
Hope you can join us on Sunday, August 4th for an educational boat outing on the Anacostia River!
