    The Washington Revels Jubilee Voices return to celebrate the Colonial Market Fair‘s 10th anniversary! Journey through the spirituals, shouts, hollers, and work songs that bound together African American communities in the 18th and early 19th Centuries. History, stories, poetry, and audience participation will be interwoven throughout the Voices’ performances. You’ll learn the roots of early African American rituals and song, hear about the lives of Africans in early America, and participate in traditions such as the ring shout. Plus enjoy all the fun of this annual living history event! Hear Jubilee Voices from 1:30-2:00 and 3-3:30 pm on Saturday & Sunday. Free Admission ($5 parking donation suggested)

    On the second Thursday of every month, enjoy the fun as well as the mental and physical health benefits of dancing with others! Are you yearning for more community engagement? More joy? More cultural activities? More exercise? We’ve got it all covered in one stop — come along and dance! June's dance features music by David Knight, Owen Morrison & Carrie Rose with caller Scott Higgs. No experience required: each session starts at 7:00 pm with a 30-minute lesson, and then dances are “called” from 7:30-10 (this means the steps are called out loud so you can follow along). All levels of experience are welcome. The Contra Dances are presented by Carpe Diem Arts in partnership with the Folklore Society of Greater Washington and Washington Revels, with support from BE ACTIVE: Montgomery County Department of Recreation.     Join us for the monthly Carpe Diem-Washington Revels Community & Family Sing. This month we meet outdoors and sing songs to welcome the Summer Solstice and to celebrate Caribbean American Heritage Month and National Accordion Month with a Potluck Supper! Everyone is welcome to bring refreshments and songs to share.
