If you're like me, you are still frustrated and saddened by Tamir Rice and Trayvon Martin's deaths; you understand the racial and socio-economic factors behind police brutality and recent discussions in the media have you fired up; maybe you've read a lot of James Baldwin, or Ta Nehesi Coates, and it really hits you in the heart and you haven't found an outlet for your thoughts and feelings. You want to talk about it. You don't believe it's impossible for us to understand one another. You think you may have it in you to understand your own white privilege, but you're not even sure how to do it. You're Afro-American and you want to meet new people and discuss these issues (because, please, we cannot do it without you).

I'd like to use media, art, literature, culture and current events as a jumping off point for discussions. All of my searches for something like this have come up empty, so I decided to try starting my own Meetup. We'll structure the discussions according to sound principles of reasoned debate, and we'll keep it interesting, and engaging yet welcoming. Who knows, this idea could spread, starting here and now. Maybe we cannot change history, but some of these thinkers, like Coates and Baldwin have changed my mind and my heart. I'd like to be part of it. If you do too, please join us!
