Using the ancient and mesmerizing art of water marbling (painting with acrylic on the surface of water!!), you can design and create your own designs on silk scarves, pillow covers, sarongs, paper, and other materials! About once a month, the artisans at Mayu Silk Art will host an Open Studio event at the Orange County Art Center in Fountain Valley (and occasionally at other locations as well!). Classes and workshops will also be available from time to time.
NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY. All events are open to all ages, abilities, and genders (unless otherwise specified). For those who wish to participate, pricing for each event will be provided in the listing. For reference, individual items range from $5 to $65 each; classes and workshops start at $50 (including materials). More information can be found at www.mayusilkart.com/events
Typically, water marbling is not a "convenient" process, but we make it easy for you by providing all the tools, equipment and materials - you provide the creativity! With it's forgiving nature and fail-safe tools to help you create gorgeous swirling designs, this learn-as-you- go art form is perfect for folks of all sorts! If you're an artist - GREAT! If you're not an artist - GREAt!! We generally work with kids as young as 2, but there have been younger exceptions. Of course, there is no age cap. Even folks with physical, emotional, or mental impairment can participate. Perfect for artists struggling with Parkinsons, Alzheimers, limited mobility, or failing vision.
Items will include (but not be limited to) silk scarves, table runners and sashes. Additional items may include satin pillow covers, cotton tank tops, cotton or silk bandannas and napkins, silk neckties, fringed scarves, note cards and sheets of paper, and occasionally leather or ceramics. At our Fountain Valley events, you will have the opportunity to use our huge marbling tray to create larger pieces such as sarongs, fabric up to 45" x 74" for quilting and sewing projects, pillow covers up to 36" x 36", veils, etc.
