Defend yourself with confidence - Aiki-Jutsu, Watford Every Tues 7:45 - 9:30pm

• WHAT WE DO Come along to watch and discuss what Aiki-Jutsu is. If you want you can join in immediately. The first 4 sessions will cost you nothing (must be 16 or over). We start by warming up before beginning practice on techniques and training methods (Don't worry - you won't have to do any high kicks!). THE ART OF AIKI-JUTSU Although developed on the battlefield, Aiki-Jutsu has been refined and updated in order to restrain and control an aggressive opponent in a quick, easy and practical way to minimise injury to yourself and those that may be with you TRAINING There is a set syllabus as well as many additional techniques thrown in. We incorporate techniques and tactics from other styles where they compliment ours including krav maga, judo and jujutsu amongst others. We keep the class friendly and somewhat informal although discipline is important and safety is paramount. The class lasts for approx. 1.5 hours with a 15 min warmup. Our style uses blocks, trapping, joint manipulation and control movements along with various forms of striking. We believe that in a conflict situation there shouldn't be rules on how you keep yourself from being harmed albeit we teach minimum force to keep safe. You'll always train with another student as this makes training more realistic and we have several high grade students so you'll get expert tuition. WHO IS IT FOR? Excellent training for women as minimal force is required to affect our techniques. It is also suitable for those in the medical profession that might need to apply restraints, security industry professionals that want to control opponents without having to punch them into submission, also supplementary training for police officers - one of our previous black belt students has gone on to become a fire arms officer and still swears by his aiki-jutsu training when on the streets. Finally, for anyone over the age of 16 that wants to learn a formidable self defence system. WHAT DO YOU NEED? A friendly disposition with a willingness to learn. You'll gain the fitness required during training. A white do-gi suit and belt can be bought once you've decided to join after your initial 4 week no cost trial. CONFIDENCE As you build confidence in defending yourself you automatically become more confident in other areas of life too. We use unique strategies using psychology, muscle memory and visualisation to help accelerate learning and ability. Gradings take place periodically and only when we feel the student is ready. We always go for a pint after training so come along and find out if this is the style for you. :) (Every Tues evening 7:45pm - 9:30pm at Aldenham School Sports Centre, Letchmore Heath, Watford.) “I tried a some martial arts classes in my 20s but was put off as I felt they were a bit ‘macho’ and regimented. This class is different. It's really friendly and encouraging and as a complete beginner, I was surprised how effective and simple the initial techniques were." ~ Emma • WHAT TO BRING Bring loose clothing (joggers and T-shirt) and a water bottle. There are shower facilities available on site so bring a towel and change of clothes if you wish. • Important to know
