3D Engines: Flash and Beyond

Join us for the first meeting of the online 3D series.

This meeting will feature exciting showcase of 3D engines on the web. We’ll review various Flash based 3D engines; PaperVision3D, Away3D, Alternativa3D, the new features with Flash Player 10, geometry modifiers like AS3MOD and the exciting new technology “unity3D”.

During the discussion we will learn about and compare the libraries based on capabilities, special features, ease of use and more. The discussion will also feature various physical engines that can be integrated with the 3D libraries such asBox2D, Ape, Wow , Jiglib, etc. We will also feature the particle system Flint and discuss the challenges involved in creating 3D experiences on the web. Closing the showcase we will experience the mighty power of the new ground breaking technology of unity3D and a short demo of Augmented Reality. Who's this meetup for?
If you are interested in developing 3D experiences, games and applications for the web.
This meetup is the first of a series of meetups intended to provide OOP and AS3 developers the required background for developing 3D online experiences.

This Webitalks meetup will be hosted by Michael Ivanov.

To viv Heilweil- I think you should check online MONO(os .NET) or BOO(Python) API documentation for this question . I think these powerful languages should give solutions for .dll interfacing . Also UNITY forum is the place where you will get your answer for sure

Thank you. It was a truly great lecture. Sorry I could not attend the beer fest later on. Hopefully next time.

Does somebody know if Unity can connect to special hardware devices (dll's)?

Great overview on3D technologies for web development. It was very knowledgeable, very summarized and very brief. It was very helpfull in understanfing the entire playground in which 3D animation can be created. cna't wait for the drill downs.

To Gil . Now , consider the following features and tell me what Director can give as counterweight: IPHONE and WII publishing , C# , JS , PYTHON coding ,debugging and profiling and MS VS interfacing, obj,3ds,fbx,dae,and raw 3d apps files import as drug and drop , full character animation pipeline , advanced networking for MMOG , advanced materials editing mechanism, terrain and environment details (trees , rocks and more ) sculpt -like editing , Advanced Particle System . and there is more!

To GIL . After returning home from the meeting I logged in to Adobe to the Features of the Director. So my bad -it does support Shaders BUT from this and to the Shaders full customization and development is the long way!!!. Unity gives you a full featured language that is in the same level as NVIDIA CG or openGL GLSL . Now my other fault was concerning Physics. Director actually use PhysX as Unity does and that was the only feature that I found to be more or less in the same tech level as Unity

Was very interesting. Looking forward to the next meeting.
    Michael, FYI: http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Director/11.5/UsingScripting/WSc3ff6d0ea77859461172e0811d64c1a1b3-7bce.html
(Of course Director supports shaders! Sure it has limitations, but when it comes to development speed, it more or less leaves everything else nothing but dust. And I say that as an AS3 developer!)

I suggest you describe more accurately the program of the meeting.
I thought it will be more broad.

    Good luck!
