This is an opportunity for published, self-published and as-yet-to-be-published authors to share, perform and market their work, get feedback from other writers, meet book sellers and others concerned with the art of writing and the business of marketing publications. It is also an excellent chance to network with other writers and those involved in the publishing industry.
Each week we'll feature a different event of interest to writers including book readings and signings, talks from book store owners, tips on self-publishing, poetry readings, play readings, etc. Presentations will be about an hour long followed by a networking dinner where attendees will have a chance to discuss the evening's program and get to know each other a bit better. Friends and family members of the presenters and audience members are also welcome to attend.
Meetings will be held at the Eastgate Cafe, 102 Harrison St., Oak Park, IL every Wednesday from 6:30 to 9:00 PM. The Eastgate is right in the heart of Oak Park's charming Arts District and the owners are active members of the Arts Community. Its layout was inspired by French and German coffee house and bistros where writers, artists, politicians and community leaders would gather to exchange ideas while enjoying gourmet fare. The food at the Eastgate is prepared from the finest and freshest local ingredients and ranges from vegetarian choices such as salads, fish, quiche and pasta to grilled hamburgers, Hungarian sausage, beef goulash, pizza and more. There is a full bar including wines, beers and cordials. Mixed drinks are also available as are a choice of classic desserts.
There's NO entrance fee BUT attendees are expected to pay for drinks and/or food during the presentation and, if they wish to participate in the networking dinner, to buy an entree (entrees are $10 to $15).
