Everyone has a story! Weekly Writing Inspiration Meetup
We meet in the public loft spaces above the restaurant at the Lloyd Hotel. Coffee, tea or drinks can be purchased at the bar and brought up to the meeting area. If you are new, and you need help finding the group, please contact me directly at [masked]. Since we meet informally without a reservation, the hotel staff doesn't always know where we are. The first hour of our meetup involves some short introductions, and informal discussions around themes of writing craft, personal writing interest, goals, writing subjects, philosophical ideas, authors, other media, art inspiration, poetry etc. We also sometimes discuss what makes us feel stuck, unmotivated, or locked into bad habits that can sabotage our creativity. The second Hour of the meetup involves an in-group writing exercise. We choose a word, phrase or any kind of relevant inspiration specific to the theme or discussions of the week. We take about 15-20 minutes to write quietly, and then share what we have written. If participants are more comfortable sharing or reading something they have prepared before, that is acceptable to read or share. Our meetings are fairly informal, but we try to have a vibe of artistic comradery and support. Our focus is on writing, creativity, sharing work, and meeting other writers and to find common ground in the artistic process. Everyone's motives for writing and expression can be individual and personal. Everyone is invited to share themselves and their stories, but I stop short of calling this a therapy or support group. • What to bring Writing implement (can be pen/ paper/ journal or laptop). • Important to know We try to have a welcoming, respectful and supportive atmosphere that helps us all gain insight into our own personal creative journey.
