    Wellington has got a new gin bar + tapas restaurant so we thought it was about time we went to check it out! This event will be hosted by gin aficionado, Kenny from Hancocks Wines & Spirits. He will talk to us about the distillation process, different flavour profiles, the best tonic matches, and the perfect garnish. Feel free to ask plenty of questions. This will be a very chilled out tasting. We will be tasting six gins in total, so leave the car keys at home ;) Each gin will be matched with a tapas dish, prepared by Chef Ariki Rei and the Pico kitchen team. Please let us know either by email or by dropping a note in the comments box below if you have any dietary requirements. The price of this event would usually be $75 per person but the lovely folks at Pico have dropped the price to $65 per person for Wellington Foodies members.     Join us as we get involved in the delicious art of fermentation with Jo Kempton (www.happybellyferments.co.nz). Fermented foods are enjoying a surge in popularity and along with this comes the great health benefits they offer. In this 2.5 hour demonstration style workshop Jo will show you how easy it is to include naturally fermented foods in the diet that are tasty and simple to prepare. Learn to make a selection of naturally fermented foods and beverages to support digestive health, boost the immune system, increase energy and enhance nutrient absorption for the whole family. Jo will show you how to make: Kimchi (traditional Korean fermented vegetables) Kombucha (the fermented drink of the moment) Fermented Herbal Cough Mixture (even better than the bought one) Water Kefir (a delicious refreshing fermented drink with many possible flavour variations) + Samples of the recipes prepared & recipe folder to take home. + bring a small jar to take home a kombucha scoby to get you started. Jo's fermentation story began on her kitchen benchtop making fermented foods and drinks to improve the health of her family.   • Summer Fruit Tart Cooking Class with Pastry Chef Maxine Scheckter

    Hey Foodies, when we heard that Maxine Scheckter of Sugar Flour was opening a pastry cooking school we jumped for joy! Before returning to NZ in 2018, Maxine worked for Heston Blumenthal at his universally renowned restaurant, "The Fat Duck". This amazing lady has some fantastic culinary skills and an exceptional pallet. She is without a shadow of a doubt one of New Zealand's best young Chefs. A rising star who's stunning creations are a feast for the eyes and the belly. During this 2.5 hour, hands-on cooking class, you will learn how to make some show stoppingly beautiful summer fruit tarts. All recipes will be provided and you will take a section of goodies home with you to impress your friends and family. This event is an exclusive for Wellington Foodies members.     Learn to fillet like a pro. We will be using sustainable, line caught snapper from Lee fish. Only the best will do! As always our cooking classes are 100% hands on. Each participant will get their own fish to fillet and you will make two different En papillote dishes. Come and join the fun!
