Noah (the movie)

Let's get together for a Skeptical movie outing.

Come along and together we can enjoy the crazy movie that is being banned in some Muslim countries, and is disliked by many Christians for too accurately portraying the horror and immorality of their god.

Featuring such actors as Jennifer Connelly, Anthony Hopkins, Emma Watson, Nick Nolte. Umm... and some others.

Preliminary rating IMDB 8.3, Rotten Tomatoes 70%.

The film starts at 6pm, and we will be watching it on Reading's Titan XC screen. The price will be $12.50, and tickets will be booked for you in advance. Please bring cash or bitcoin.

It promises to be laugh-a-minute wackiness, and genocide and should serve as the basis for a good chat in the pub afterwards. We will be in [public.] from 8:30pm.

So... Is the movie with the money?

No. There's 2 1/2 hours I will never get back. Wait for it to come out on Sky or Aro St and fast-forward if you want to get the flavour of it. Pre-LotR CGI, wooden acting from Crowe, a plot that mixes little bits of some old holy book with (other) wacky made-up stuff. Not really coherent. Noah a really unsympathetic character. Only really hardline fundies will see enough in common with their made-up stuff to get really angry. I think afficionados of fantasy will be disappointed, because the biblical aspect tied it down, prevented it from really flying with ideas.

Note that they do not allow bare feet in Readings. Ask me how I know sometime...

      That's a legal thing

    What seats did you get?

I have four spare pairs of Real3D glasses if anyone wants to save $1.50.
We should dress appropriately - but I guess raised umbrellas during the screening would not be appreciated...

Not sure I want to sit through it again but depending on when and where could be interested in discussing it afterwards over a beer.

I'll see what I can do.

I'll be getting tickets on Monday afternoon. If you're signed up by the RSVP deadline, I'll be expecting payment even if you don't turn up, otherwise I'll be left out of pocket. I don't carry an eftpos machine or a cash register so please bring the correct cash (or bitcoin). The price will be $12.50 for everybody, no other concessions.

Could hardly be better than the Embassy, but screenings on 1/4/14 are 1.15pm 8.20pm 10.20pm. None very convenient. 6pm there on Wednesday 2/4/14. (I don't care about the date. Doesn't the foolery stop at noon?)

Nearest on April 1 is 6pm at the Reading. (Titan XC - is that a bigger screen? I'd like to experience that)

It's on at my favourite theatre, the Lighthouse Pauatahanui at 5.50 that day.

Super, what with Cheap Tuesday, a block booking and my Winston Card, they'll be practically paying me to go - which might be fitting.

I know, they'll probably only allow the one concession, but count me in.)

Location will be important for me. Will wait until that's sorted before I decide to RSVP.
