Shoot the Full Moon from Frank Kitts Park.

The Full Moon is coming up at 18:56 on Wed March 27 - it'll make for great shots as it comes up behind Eastburne and shoots over the hills across the Wellington Harbour. Ventage point is The Promenade at Frank Kitts Park.

Rather than commenting on all the photos, I'll just say it here - you guys got some seriously awesome shots last night. Epic!

It's a bit tougher to shoot the moon than I thought! Great to see everyone out tonight. For those asking about what the moon looked like yesterday, I'm going to post two pics from Mt. Vic (may be hard to make out the moon through the haze).

It was nice meeting all tonight. Sadly most if not all my pictures are not sharp which is likely due to wind. Next time will need to find a better spot away from wind.

Yeah, I'm going to organise another cafe meetup, which will be easier from the wind perspective... :-)

Short notice, but since it is looking like a clear evening I will also be up on Mt. Vic today, around 18:00, to shoot the city in golden light and to catch the moonrise at[masked]

Hey guys, you might want to consider doing this the evening before - you'll get more of the land visible in your shots than if you shoot on the night *before* the full moon, because there is still some sunlight to light up the hills etc. Easier to get longer exposures too, when the moon isn't at 100% brightness. Hope this helps! :-)

Uh, my point being you might want to make the meet-up 15 to 30 min earlier to allow for setup time.

It will reach max heigh a bit after that (00:37 Thursday morning, the time when it passes through our 174 Degrees East Meridian ) The 22.27 is the time it passes from the 'waxing' to 'waning' phase, ie the astronomical 'Full Moon' when it is directly oposite the sun and at it's brightest. I'll move the meetup time back 15 mins, to give us some extra time (the actual moonrise for our location is delayed becouse the moon has to clear the hills to the East before we see it).

Using TPE (http://photoephemeris.com/) to look at where the moon is rising I'm not sure you're going to get the best view from Frank Kitts - looks to me like you'll get the hills above Oriental Parade more than Eastbourne for the cresting of the moon?

True the moon will peek up across Oriental Pde, but the background Rimutaka Range will still tower above the Mt Victoria ridge which slopes down across oriental Pde so the view should not be obscured.

The location is on the walkway (Promenade), on the water-facing side of Frank Kitts Park - right beside the tall sculpture that looks like a yellow ship's mast. Nearby is the playground, the water sculpture, and underground entrance to the parking lot/underground market. When you look at the Meetup Map, the spot is marked by the green arrow.

May be if I don't have to work that evening.

Not sure where The Promenade is - is that the tarmac on the sea side?
