Mangahao Flats Hut overnight
Mangahao Flats is a standard 16 bunk hut located next to the river. The track follows the river and should be mostly flat the whole way. I have not been to this hut before but I expect there will be plenty of mud and small creek crossings. DOC website says 5-6 hours. More info here: We will walk in and out the same way. To come on this trip you should have been on at least a couple of overnight tramping trips in the past year. Saturday 23 June - 7.30am: meet at platform 9, Wellington train station. Drive to Mangahao Dam road end (approx. 2 hours) - 10am: walk to hut Sunday 24 June - 8am: leave hut, walk back to car park Transport: - looking for at least one other driver to bring their car. There is a longish section of gravel road at the end which might take approx 40mins to drive. Petrol will be approx. $15-20 per passenger Gear: - packing list can be found here Food: - you will need 1 x breakfast, 2 x lunch, snacks and drinks. Feel free to bring alcohol if you wish. - we will do a shared meal ($5 contribution) Hut ticket: - you will need to buy 1 x standard hut ticket ($5) or have a backcountry hut pass Sign ups will open on Saturday 9th June (if I can get the website to work properly). What we're about

Find us on Facebook! (

This group is all about hiking and tramping and exploring Wellington Region and further afield. We cover everything from a few hours over day and weekend tramps and welcome experienced trampers to organise and guide. Sometimes we even go for a Sunday afternoon Stroll along the coast - but that's the exception.

This platform lets you get together with other keen people and go places together. There'll be a trip organiser that will plan out the logistics and how to get from A to B, but we're all adults responsible for ourselves.

If you sign up for a tramp - read carefully, make sure your fitness level matches the description and you do have the appropriate gear. If you are unsure - please get in contact with the organiser of the particular tramp or one of the group organisers. We'd rather you ask lots of questions than something happening!

We organise our trips on , and talk about all things tramping, and plan future events and tramps on ( .
