Cow Creek Hut

Let's try this again...

Let's tramp to Cow Creek Hut via Blue Range hut. It will be 4-5 hours of walking on the way in and about the same on the way out, most of it uphill. We will try to go at a decent pace so we have some time to enjoy the river while it's still light.

It is a standard hut so you will need one hut ticket.
Also the standard: several layers of warm clothes, rain gear, sleeping bag, dry clothes to sleep in, headlamp or torch, lots of snacks, stuff for breakfast and two lunches.
tramping boots are essential as well.

Forecast looking ok, not great. Down to 3 degrees at night...hut has a fire but still. Make sure you have warm clothes. No rain forecast but it's NZ so bring raingear anyway ;)

Regarding the food prep, I will bring my little stove and 2 small pots, each about 1.4 litres. Everyone, remember to bring your bowl and spoon!

Cool, so looks like I don't need my stove then. I have a big pot which might be useful. I'll bring it and we can always leave it in the car if not needed.

Ok, Kim you are in charge of brining veggies (mushrooms, zucchini, etc...) for a vegetarian pasta dish for a shared dinner. All the other meals are individual.

We'll keep food the same but Tiffany or Julia-one of you will need to bring sauce and the other veggies. Andrew-you still good to provide your car for the 4 of us?

Guys, I am going to postpone this given a) I'm still a bit sick b) Julia may not be able to make it and c) rain all day each day.
Bleh. Please PM me weekends in August/September that work for you and hopefully we can find one that works for everyone.
Andrew-as you might still be keen to go feel free to post and maybe Tiff will join you.

Hey, so are we going to postphone this thing then? I don't mind waiting for a nicer weekend...just that if we are going then I have to start packing soon!

Seems like the best thing to do is postpone although I'm sure Andrew will still be keen. Was hoping to hear back from Kirsty...

Hi I'm at a uni hostel which has had parts evacuated so everything's a little up in the air at the moment. What is the situation with everyone else? Alyssa if you want to maybe flick me your number ([masked]) so I can let you know what's happening. I can bring my veges down tomorrow morning if I can't come. Did someone have a PLB/SPOT/Mt radio they were going to bring?

Hi Julia-My place is fine but I'm sick so was potentially cancelling anyway. I don't have a radio. I know Kirsty wasn't thrilled with the forecast....

Yeah rain all weekend is not cool :-(

Yes, meet at the railway station. Turnoff is by Masterton so had better make it early...shall we try 9am? Forecast is currently for rain both days which is not ideal at all!

Platform 9 at the railway station? ...I'm sure the rain will only be intermittent and scenic.

      August 15, 2013

Hey, so is the plan to meet at Wellington train station? What time are we thinking?

Ok, so looks like transportation sorted, will need to confirm time later. As for food, bring your own snacks, two lunches and breakfast. For dinner we will do a group veggie pasta. I propose dividing up the food as follows: 1) pasta and some cheese 2) sauce (and maybe some herbs for flavour?) 3-4) veggies 5) dessert. Does that sound good to everyone? I will bring 1) pasta and cheese, if everyone else can volunteer to bring something. I have a stove as does Andrew so we will be sorted on that. We'll want maybe 2 big pots and one smaller pot. I have a big one and a small one we can use.

I have a smaller car that can take 3 with ease or 4 as a squeeze, but the fuel economy is superb. In truth, I'm happy to leave it at home and go in someone else's car. Would we be meeting at the railway station?

Not sure how many people Kirsty can take so not sure if we'll need 1 or 2 cars. And yes, I'd say meet at railway station. Will try to post food related stuff tomorrow
