The Wellington Tramping Group Message Board › Planning Meeting Trip Summary

Planning Meeting Trip Summary

Hi,

First, apologies for those who wondered what was going on with the group...apparently folding the night after the first (successful) planning meeting! Alistair's (who was hosting the group) subscription payment didn't go through, and the emails informing him about it ended up in his SPAM folder. I was waiting until after the long weekend to hear whether the payment was going through or not, before posting, but meanwhile got removed as co-organiser, with my access to group emails and tools. Hence, no summary of the trips. In the meantime, Jaana talked to Alistair and has rescued the group, so we are up and running again.  Thats it in a nutshell!

Thanks to everyone who attended the planning meeting – we came up with a great list of tramping destinations (see what left of my MS Word table).

We have some leaders for these, but need volunteers, particularly for the easier ones.  In terms of organisation, the advantage of Meetup over other groups is that arrangements can be made online, so less planning involved.

Leading Trips

I would suggest, esp for the South Island trips, leaders encourage people to book their own flights and huts (or bring tents as much as possible) (or obtain a deposit/full cost before booking), bring their own food, with rides arranged on the site.  However, its up to the individual how they want to plan things.

Make sure someone in the group has a first aid kit, in case of emergencies, including survival bag.

Check the ability of people signing up for the trip and state level of fitness/experience required upfront in the tramp description.

Be prepared to co-lead a trip with someone who wants to, but is new to leading.

In the meantime, look forward to seeing you on some tramps!

Fiona
