What we're about
We will be engaging in laughing, clapping, playing, breathing deeply and stretching our bodies gently. We will not be using jokes, humor or comedy. "Pretend Laughter" is initiated through exercises as directed by the Laughter Leader. Through laughing, playing and making eye contact, the laughter quickly becomes real and it is VERY contagious! Participating in Laughter Yoga will leave you feeling energized, happy, connected to one another, and less stressed. When we laugh, our brains release endorphins, our immune system gets boosted, our blood pressure drops, we breathe easier, our bodies feel less pain and we get great cardiovascular exercise. We do NOT need to be 'happy', or 'in a good mood' to participate in Laughter Yoga. In fact, one of the best times to make time to laugh is when we are not happy or in a good mood. We have a choice of what we do and how we feel. We can choose to laugh and play, thus lifting our spirits, despite our brains' often misguided desires to keep us in a bad mood. Practicing laughter and play, like practicing riding a bicycle, gets easier and we get better at it the more we do it. If we choose to practice laughing and playing regularly, we will find ourselves able to use the tools of laughter and play in many different areas of our lives. We like to say, "If you can laugh at it, you can live with it." Laughter does not solve problems, but it does serve to dissolve the mental blocks that keep us from finding creative, positive, effective solutions to our problems. Let's all agree to leave jokes at home as humor is subjective. This means: what is funny to one person may be un-funny or even offensive to another person. We will gather to laugh together as an exercise and to get to know one another as individual people after the laughter session. Your Laughter Teacher, Leader, and coach will be Lynne West. Lynne was trained by the founder of Laughter Yoga Dr. Madan Kataria.
