HILDA YOUNG DOG HIKE, this is NOT a power hike, but it's not an easy trail.

A rugged 6 mile hike.  Some creeks at the beginning/end, but then up and back down a BIG hill.   Dirt trails,, maybe some junk to crawl over on the trail.  Not too rocky, but very isolate. Not super exciting, but a good little workout near Eureka.

Those who hike with me know that my pace is slower than other meetup groups and we stop as often as necessary to water the dogs and tighten up the group.

This is a Conservation Area.  These are usually more rugged than some of our other trails.  We only go here when the ticks/bugs are gone.  You will be tired when we're done.  A pretty good hike for newbies who want to "get their paws dirty".

• RATED MODERATE

• 6 miles, allow 3 hours

• Muddy if it rains

• No bikers on trails

• Hiking boots recommended

• Bring water for your dog & yourself

• No bathrooms, stop in Eureka if needed.  There will be trees.

• Might be some managed deer hunts (bow hunters, not guns)

DRIVING DIRECTIONS....

Your GPS should work here.  Take Hwy 44 to Hwy 109 (Eureka) south/left.  109 will "T" into Hwy FF.   Turn right on FF, go about 3 miles to parking lot on left.  There is a sign on FF before you get to the parking lot, but it sneaks up on you.  If you get to John McKeever Road, you've gone too far.

My phone's gps clocked at us at right about 5.75 miles. I think I missed the first quarter mile on the way out before I turned it on. Good elevation climb today though!

Have found that GPS tends to overlook the ups and downs, and register less mileage. However, I never registered this at 7 miles. My fitbit is a step counter, and usually extremely accurate. We'll just have to do this again. Compromise at 6.5 for the record this time.

The thing I have actually maps out the route and elevation, so who knows. Yaaaaay technology. Lol. Had a blast though!

A great trail that was a pretty good little workout. Just enough water in the creek to water the dogs a few times, some beautiful little frozen waterfalls, and pretty scenery. It's been 2 yrs since we've hiked here, but I think everyone in the group really enjoyed it, so we'll hit this one again during the winter season. Just the right mix of people/dogs here. Thanks to all of our hikers and their wonderful pups for a good, chilly, rugged morning hike.

WEATHER LOOKS ABSOLUTELY FINE FOR THIS ONE, unless something changes big time overnight.

The middle 3-ish miles is a big hill up and then back down again. It's not easy, but you know we don't go too fast. You can always turn back. I, personally, think she can do it in this cooler weather. You know your dog, but you won't know until you try.

And, once you get to the top, it's pretty easy and downhill all the way back.
