FAQ

Do I have to sit cross legged to be able to meditate for long periods?

No you don't. Whilst for some techniques sitting upright (either on a little bit of height i.e a yoga block / cushion or on a chair if you would prefer) is recommended, when practising Yoga Nidra you are actively encouraged to lie down getting as comfortable as you can, covered by an optional blanket.

Who is meditation suitable for? Anyone, of any age, background or religion.

What is Yoga nidra? Yoga nidra / a guided meditation is a transformative practice derived from the ancient teachings of meditation. It is a practical process of guided relaxation and self-awareness that promotes stress reduction and well-being, whilst enabling you to recognise your innate peace of mind that is always present amidst all changing circumstances of life.
Yoga nidra provides you with tools to help you relax deeply, release stress, increase resiliency, improve your interpersonal relationships and provide you with greater mastery and control in your life. Yoga nidra is practised lying down or if you prefer sitting on the floor, on a meditation cushion or on a chair.

What to bring?

Just yourself. All mats, cushions, chairs, blankets are provided, although you can bring a favourite blanket or eye pillow if you like. All that is required is an openness and willingness to the process.

I was 40 years old with a busy life, and I was a merchandise manager in a very fast paced retail head office environment which included travelling a great deal. I enjoyed my job, but was stressed a lot of the time with erratic sleep patterns, and felt “off” (like something wasn’t quite right) regularly. I had also experienced anxiety and panic attacks. I had read that meditation might help, so i booked myself onto a 10 day silent meditation retreat. Talk about throwing myself in at the deep end! It certainly was a life changing experience, but even though i tried for a number of weeks afterwards, the meditation technique that i learnt, wasn’t sustainable for me back in everyday life. So i explored other practices until i found the one that worked for me. Since the start of my meditation journey i have learnt and practiced a number of individual techniques to find the one(s) that particularly resonated with me including Mindfulness, Vipassanna, iRest yoga nidra, concentration on the breath and mantras. I found the practice that works for me and have a daily seated meditation practise and i also practise iRest Yoga nidra. With a regular meditation practise I have experienced many benefits including improved focus and energy, reduced symptoms of stress and improved sleep patterns.
