Moderate 10 miles / 16.1 km - This is a circular walk
Join founding member Dave in re-tracing the group’s inaugural walk from almost exactly 20 years ago. Key words of the day will be: ‘anecdotes’, ‘analogue’, ‘friendship’, ‘WKWO characters’, ‘twentieth century’, ‘old skool’ and ‘legacy’. Song of the day will be ‘1999’ by Prince.
We start and finish at the delightful medieval moated manor house, Ightham Mote, walking to The Plough at Basted via Shipbourne’s Fairlawne estate and the orchards and former hop gardens around Yopps Green.
I will book a table at The Plough for 20 people but please confirm that you’d like to eat in the pub by no later than 10th January 2019 and I will adjust the numbers accordingly.
We will return to Ightham Mote via the remains of a late 13th-century knight’s dwelling (Old Soar Manor), Oxen Hoath and Dunk’s Green. If we make good time and aren’t tempted by the Kentish Rifleman at Dunk’s Green, cream teas and lots of cake (birthday?) are available at Ightham Mote’s café which is open until 4pm.
Looking forward to meeting old friends, new faces and newcomers, to help celebrate the start of our 21st year.
Please note Penny is dealing with all enquires for this walk.
Please note that there is a £2 voluntary contribution for non-Rambler members towards meetup fees.
Paid up members of the Ramblers are welcome on any of our walks, but we would encourage you to RSVP. This is to give our volunteer walk leaders an idea of how many are attending, and also to keep the numbers manageable.
If, on the day of the walk, you are still on the waiting list and a Rambler member, please let the walk leader know you are coming. On the day of the walk only, the group leader can be contacted on[masked] - voice calls only (no texts).
