Station Approach, Bucks, HP5 1DH, Chesham
This is our first training event for the year. We are arranging a one day workshop covering basic navigation techniques including orientation of the map using a compass and land features; determining the direction of travel, distance and timings; identifying all Map features and details.
The day should give you the tools to plan and undertake walks in lowland terrain. This is the first stage on gaining lowland leader qualifications. We will offer further training to everyone booked in for today’s course so that they can aim to become qualified walk leaders.
Information for today’s course: Compass provided. Area covered OS Map 181, Chiltern Hills North.
Please bring paper & pencil, usual walking gear & boots. Plus packed lunch & drinks. Flask of hot tea/coffee would be a good idea. We will finish mid afternoon. There are cafes & pubs by the station to get food & drinks at the end of the course. Chesham is on the Met line from London. Regular trains back to London on Met line. Within Oyster travel zone.
The trainer is a qualified Mountain Leader, Hill and Moorland leader & Expedition Skills. D of E supervisor and assessor to gold level. NNAS provider.
We will also offer 2 follow up days walking over the following month to practise skills on another walk.
Cost of event is £35. This includes the workshop; two follow up training walks & full group membership for 12 months. Full membership of Hawog group entitles members to join us for all day walks & bike rides entirely free of charge. We offer around 40 day walks every year & around 15 weekends away each year.
