We depart the charming Longdon Green through fields and eventually pass a busy equestrian centre. The route enters the south end of Cannock Case and continues through the village of Gentleshaw. A mile or so later, about half way round, brings us to the entrance of Castle Ring; an ancient Iron Age hill fort. Conveniently this is also the location of the Park Gate Inn where we can take a lunchbreak and refreshments. We then skirt around the west side of the hill fort continuing a circular route to Upper Longdon and then across fields with very well maintained horses, along paths back to Longdon Green.
The Red Lion has very nice beer but you need to book if you want to eat.
