Having just moved to the area in time for the opening of the new cinema and library (isn’t it lovely?!), I thought this would be a good way to meet some new people. I love books and films so the group will consist of a book group and cinema meetups.
We will focus the book group around books that have been made into films to honour the combo. This also narrows it down a bit from all the books in the world and means if you don’t have time to read the book you can cheat and watch the film, though you know it won’t be as good!
It seems like the PH would be the best place to host this but I’ll have to see about what areas they have available. If not, then possibly Knowles of Norwood, who have a few snug areas. Looking forward to meeting you all and let me know if you have any questions or ideas.
As this one is coming out in February, I thought it would be good to do the book group and then organise a cinema visit for the week after. Can agree times for the cinema when the showings are announced.
If Beale Street Could Talk is a 1974 novel by American writer James Baldwin.
'Harlem in the 1970s: the black soul of New York City. Tish is nineteen and the man she loves - her lifelong friend and the father of her unborn child - has been jailed for a crime he did not commit. As their families come together to fight for his freedom, will their love be enough?'
Please remember to change your RSVP if you find you can't come. On both occasions, I've had 3 people not turn up. I understand that plans can change but it's plain rude not to even let me know!
