What we're about

This is a group for anyone interested in stand-up paddling. We mostly plan paddles in the Boston area, often on the Concord/Sudbury/Assabet rivers, or other spots north and west of the city. All skill levels are welcome, but it's likely that different meet-ups will be more appropriate for different levels. You might see anything from an occasional beginner class or skills session, to SUP racing. If you're an absolute beginner, check this discussion (https://www.meetup.com/West-of-Boston-SUP-Meetup/boards/thread/51668494) for more info.

SUP Talk and Board Demonstrations

Newton

Charles River Kayak and Canoe is hosting a board talk and board demonstration for us on Saturday, June 29 from 3:30-6:00. The talk will include information about gear and boards, and the demo will allow us an opportunity to try a variety of different boards, including inflatables, boards with displacement hulls, and crosses. We will learn about how different boards have different things to offer in terms of volume, stability, shape, and sturdiness- and how different boards can meet different needs. This event will be especially helpful for those who are interested in purchasing a SUP at some point but would like more information on what to buy and why. This is not an event for people who have never been out on the water, but for those have some stability on an SUP and want to get a feel for how boards are different from one another and why. We will not be going very far from the dock. There is a limit to how many can RSVP for this event. You must click on the link below and register via the AMC (by typing your name and contact info on the sign up sheet), and to find exact details about location and times: https://amcboston.org/trip/113609

Paddle Little Harbor Marblehead

Little Harbor Boathouse

This was fun last year, let's do it again. Let's paddle the beautiful scenic Little Harbor of Marblehead. This is the small harbor just to the northeast of Marblehead Harbor (the main boat harbor) with an adjacent cove (Dolliber Cove). There is a paddle-boarding school and rental facility. If you don't have your own board you can rent one for $24/hour or $48/2 hours. http://littleharborboathouse.com/rentals/standup-paddle-boards PLEASE PLAN TO BE AT THE LAUNCH POINT BY 3 PM. (PLAN TO ARRIVE AROUND 2:30 FOR PARKING, ETC). SEE MAP BELOW AND MY ILLUSTRATION. Most likely we will stay within the Cove area, but if the waves are not bad we may round the bend from Fort Sewall into Marblehead Harbor. Last year we parked in the boat house parking lot. There is also a small amount of free public parking at 166 Front street with access to the same put-in location of Little Harbor Beach (behind houses on the left/west). SEE MY MAP /ILLUSTRATION HERE: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nSygO3d4xxXhbYwRRFmBQT8hX2jpYQBb/view?usp=sharing MEETING LOCATION: https://goo.gl/maps/rn3kGxL7vYE2 I will message you with my Cell Number after you RSVP so we can find each other. High tide is 3:53 so we are meeting 1 hour before high tide. If anyone is interested, we can grab a bite to eat at The Barnacle afterward. Directions: From Salem, Peabody, Danvers & Points North Follow Rte. 114 to end (turns into Pleasant Street in Marblehead), turn left on Washington to end. Take slight left onto Orne Street, then take an immediately right (at Little Harbor Offices & Residences sign) onto Doaks Lane. Follow signs to Little Harbor Boathouse, 40 Doaks Lane. Park in lot. Take the T from Boston all the way to Franklin St & Washington - 2 min. walk to Little Harbor Boathouse! 441 from Wonderland Station via Central Square, Lynn and Lynnway. 448 - Marblehead - Downtown Crossing via Paradise Rd.or Humphrey St., Lynnway, & Airport NOTE: PFDs are required to paddle with this group. Inflatable belt PFDs are fine, but if you are planning to push your skills (and get wet in the process), you'll be safer and more comfortable in a traditional PFD and a wetsuit or rash guard, with a leash to keep your board from blowing away when you fall off.
