Join us for authentic West African djembe drumming led by Baba Abubakr Kouyate, a master drummer with 40 years of experience. He teaches in African village style. All levels play and learn complex rhythms together on sangba, dunnun-ba, kenkeni, and djembe. Each person learns at his/her own pace.

Abubakr Kouyate teaches authentic West African djembe rhythms of Guinea and Mali in the traditional village style. All levels learn and plan together on djembe, sangba, kenkeni and dunnunba. Even if you are brand new to drumming, there are always parts that you can play. These are intricate multipart rhythms that require at least 6 people to play all the parts, and Abubakr often adds parts to the polyrhythmic djembe orchestra. Join us for a joyous celebration of the heart of Africa. Your spirits wlll soar!
