Camp Smith Trail -- Bear Mountain Bridge toll house to Anthony’s Nose

  • Nov 9, 2013 · 9:00 AM

My favorite Hudson River hike. Join us for a moderate-to-strenuous there-and-back hike along the Hudson River highlands between the Bear Mountain Bridge toll house and Anthony’s Nose. Panoramic Hudson River views combined with several long climbs up heavily exposed rock outcroppings. This is by far the most beautiful and one of the most challenging hikes in Westchester County, and a final opportunity to catch the splendid autumn foliage.

Distance: 6.2 miles

Difficulty: Moderate-to-strenuous. Lots of steep climbs and descents.

Duration: 4-5 hours

Trail Map: NY/NJ TC #101

Parking: Parking is limited at the Bear Mountain Bridge toll house. Park along Rte 202 just south of the toll house. As always, please look for carpooling opportunities.

Driving directions: From Annsville Rte 9 / Rte 202 traffic circle: Drive north on Rte 202 approximately 1.1 miles to Bear Mountain toll booth house. Park in parking lot or along roadside. From Bear Mountain Bridge: Drive south on Rte 202 approximately 2.6 miles to Bear Mountain toll booth house. Park in parking lot or along roadside.

Guest policy: No guests for this hike. All hikers must be members of WHMG.

Equipment: Sturdy hiking shoes. Water -- at least two liters. Hiking poles are strongly recommended. Headlamp or flashlight. Trail map. Fully charged cell phone.

Dog policy: Dogs are welcome on this hike, but must be kept on leash and under control at all times.

Good evening, everyone. If I do decide to come, would anyone of you be able to pick me up at the White Plains Train Station by the Taxi Stand? If so, can you meet me around 8:15am? I plan to come to the station by train. Thanks.

    Hi,
Do you plan on doing the rock scramble up the face of Anthony's nose.

    November 3, 2013

    • Peter

Negative. We'll hike to Anthony's Nose via the highlands ridge from the Toll House.
