Needs a location

Please join us for a hike along the AT from Anthony Wayne SP up to Bear Mountain. If conditions are favorable, we may extend the hike by descending eastward via the AT and returning via the Suffern-Bear Mtn and 1777 trails. Hopefully by Monday the trails will have had sufficient foot traffic that they will not be snow-drifted postholing nightmares. Think favorable thoughts in the interim!

Difficulty: Moderate-to-strenuous depending on conditions. Several long very steep rock scrambles.

Distance: 6 - 12 miles

Estimated Time: 4 to 8 hours

Trail Map: NY/NJ TC #119. Trail maps can be procured from REI, EMS or the NY/NJ TC website:

Please note that Anthony Wayne parking lot is massively huge. Plan to park in the northern-most area of the lot. Print out and follow the Google Map directions.

Weather: Rain cancels.

Equipment: Sturdy hiking shoes. Water -- at least two liters. Hiking poles recommended. Headlamp or flashlight. Trail map. Fully charged cell phone. Microspikes are required. Snowshoes would be very useful.

Dog policy: Dogs are welcome on this hike, but must be kept on leash and under control at all times.

Day-of-hike cellphone #: You must provide me with a day-of-hike cellphone # or risk having your RSVP cancelled.

Guests: No guests for this hike. All hikers must be members of WHMG.

Important Note: Be certain to check this webpage and your email prior to the hike for any last-minute changes or cancellations.
